|Question about fanfic

This is something that a poster on TW.net asked and got me thinking. The gist of the question was can a person finish off another person's piece, despite attempts to hear from the person who has started the piece, even if you credit the person who started the piece?
If that happened to me, I would be upset that somebody took my story that I created and nutured, to a degree, and completely changed the tone and nature of the story.
Basically, I told this person that you don't touch the work no matter what; its rude and could be considered to be a form of plagarism, even though the section on plagarism on TW.net says nothing about completing somebody else's work. Secondly, another author can't mimick the first author's style. Thirdly, its just plain rude and in a way its like stealing peoples icons/avs/graphics and passing them off as their own. Thirdly, the author may still be on the site on occasion and what if they saw the title, they might wonder why their story is updated, even though they may have not worked on the piece for quite some time.
Did I say the right thing? I hope I did. I mean, it could have been said a little nicer, I suppose. Would be curious as to what you guys think.
